Petukhov, Boris Sergeevich
Born July 22 (Aug. 4), 1912, in Novozybkov, Briansk Oblast. Specialist in thermal power engineering. Corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1976). Member of the CPSU since 1946.
After graduation from the V. V. Kuibyshev Industrial Institute in 1936, Petukhov worked at the Kuibyshev Construction Institute, the Bezymiannyi Heat and Power Plant, and the Kuibyshev Oblast Project. In 1943 he joined the faculty of the Moscow Power Engineering Institute, where he became a professor in 1957. In 1966 he was named a department head at the Institute of High Temperatures of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Petukhov’s principal works have been devoted to research on convective heat exchange in liquid and gas flows under high heat loads and at high temperatures and speeds; the study of the mechanism of boiling and heat exchange of liquids and liquid metals; and hydrodynamics and heat exchange in fluid, gas, and liquid metal flows in gravitational and magnetic fields. Petukhov has been awarded the Order of the October Revolution, two other orders, and various medals.
