chrys·o·phyte C5356550 (krĭs′ə-fīt′)n. Any of numerous mostly freshwater unicellular heterokonts of the division Chrysophyta that are characteristically golden brown, having two types of chlorophyll largely masked by the pigment fucoxanthin. Also called golden alga, golden-brown alga.
