Fioletov, Ivan

Born 1884, in the village of Tugulukovo, in what is now Borisoglebsk Raion, Voronezh Oblast; died Sept. 20, 1918, between the Pereval and Akhcha-Kuima stations on the Transcaspian Railroad. Russian revolutionary. Member of the Communist Party from 1900.

The son of a peasant, Fioletov was a metalworker in Baku. In 1904 he became a member of the Baku Committee of the RSDLP. During the Revolution of 1905–07 he helped organize a petroleum workers’ trade union in Groznyi and Baku. In 1908 he was exiled to Sol’vychegodsk. Beginning in 1911, Fioletov conducted party work in Baku, Tashkent, and Cheleken. Immediately after the February Revolution of 1917, he became a member of the executive committee of the Baku soviet; in May he became chairman of the Trade Union of Petroleum Workers. In October 1917, Fioletov joined the Caucasian Regional Committee of the RSDLP(B). In April 1918 he became commissar of national economic affairs of the Baku council of people’s commissars; he was involved in the nationalization of the petroleum industry and in the creation of a system to supply petroleum to Soviet Russia. Fioletov was one of the 26 Baku Commissars shot in 1918.
