Established: 1938.
Location:20 miles south of Virginia Beach Virginia.
Facilities:Visitor contact station, viewing sites, trails, tram tour.
Activities:Canoeing, fishing, hiking, hunting, bicycling, educational programs.
Special Features:Approximately 10,000 snow geese and a large variety of ducks visit Back Bay NWR during the peak of fall migration, usually in December.
Habitats: More than 9,000 acres of coastline barrier island habitat including beach, dunes, woodland, farm fields, and marsh.
Access: Dawn to dusk year round.
Wild life: Snow geese and ducks, as well as loggerhead sea turtles, piping plovers, peregrine falcons, and bald eagles.
