Faizulla Khodzhaev

Born 1896 in the city of Bukhara; died Mar. 15, 1938. Soviet state and party figure. Member of the Communist Party from 1920.

Khodzhaev was the son of a merchant. He joined the Jadidist movement in 1913 and the movement of the Mladobukhartsy (Young Bukharans) in 1916. In 1917 he became a member of the Central Committee of the Young Bukharan Party. After the October Revolution of 1917, Khodzhaev established close contacts with the Bolsheviks in Soviet Russia. In January 1920 he was chairman of the Turkestan Central Bureau of the Revolutionary Young Bukharans; in August of the same year, as chairman of the revolutionary committee, he helped lead the armed uprising against the emir of Bukhara.

From 1920 to 1924, Khodzhaev was chairman of the Council of People’s Nazirs (Commissars) and a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Bukhara; in 1922 he became a member of the Middle Asian Bureau of the Central Committee of the RCP(B). He took part in the struggle against the Basmachi revolt and was a member of the revolutionary military council of the Bukhara Army Group. In 1925, Khodzhaev became chairman of the Council of People’s Commissars of the Uzbek SSR, one of the chairmen of the Central Executive Committee of the USSR, and a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan. He was a delegate to the Twelfth through Seventeenth Congresses of the ACP(B).

Khodzhaev was awarded the Order of Lenin and two other orders.
