CAV2

A gene on chromosome 7q31.1 that encodes caveolin 2, the main scaffolding protein of the inner surface of caveolae (small invaginations of plasma membranes). Caveolin 2 is involved in essential cellular functions, including signal transduction, lipid metabolism, control of cell growth and apoptosis; it may function as a tumour suppressor.
