elevons

elevons

elevonsAircraft control surfaces combining the effect of ailerons and elevators. Normally, these are used on delta and swept-back wing platforms and are located near the wing tips. The fore-and-aft movement of the control column causes the elevons to operate together, which in turn rotates the aircraft about its lateral, or pitch, axis. If the control column is moved sideways, the elevons move differentially (i.e., one elevon goes up while the other goes down), causing the aircraft to rotate about its longitudinal, or roll, axis.
