Acute Fatty Liver of Pregnancy

A rare (1:10,000–15,000) idiopathic complication of pregnancy, most often affecting primiparas with male infants or twins, variably associated with pre-eclampsia.
Clinical findings Onset after 35th week—occasionally as early as the 13th week—possibly progressing to fulminant hepatic failure with jaundice, encephalopathy, DIC, death.
Prognosis ±20% mortality
Management Terminate pregnancy
