Cristal Mountains

(also Crystal Mountains; French, Monts de Cristal), highlands in central Africa, between the Ogooué River in the south and the Campo River in the north, in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. The Cristal Mountains constitute the uplifted and deeply eroded and dissected western margin of the Southern Guinea Upland; they drop off abruptly to a coastal lowland. Elevations range generally from 600 to 800 m, with a maximum of 1,000 m at Mount Dana. The Cristal Mountains are composed of Precambrian crystalline rocks and are covered with dense evergreen equatorial rain forests.
