Ellinor Piipuu
Piipuu, Ellinor Ianovna
Born Oct. 5 (18), 1913, in Riga. Soviet artist and ceramist. Honored Artist of the Estonian SSR (1963).
Piipuu graduated from the State Industrial Arts School in Tallinn in 1933. She has produced small sculptures, decorative garden sculptures, ceramic panels, and vases. Piipuu works mainly in baked clay with glazes fired at high temperatures. She never uses a potter’s wheel. Her works are characterized by subtle colors and the plasticity of form. The charm of a handmade article is retained even after reproduction.
