Atamanov, Lev Konstantinovich

 

Born Feb. 8 (21), 1905, in Moscow. Soviet producer of animated cartoon films; Honored Art Worker of the RSFSR (1964).

In 1926, Atamanov graduated from the First State School of Cinematography. He is one of the originators of Soviet animated cartoon cinematography. He worked in Armenia, where he produced The Dog and the Cat (1938) and The Magic Carpet (1948). In 1949 he became director of the All-Union Animated Cartoon Films Studio. Atamanov has received prizes and recognition at international film festivals for such films as The Yellow Stork (1950), The Red Flower (1952), The Golden Antelope (1954), The Snow Queen (1957), The Shepherdess and the Chimney Sweep (1965), and The Bench (1968).
