Location:Spans the southern tip of the Florida peninsula and most of FloridaBay. Park headquarters is located near Florida City. The northern andwestern visitor centers are accessible via US 41 (Tamiami Trail). The boundaries of Everglades National Park protect only the southern one-fifth of the historic Everglades ecosystem. Facilities:Campgrounds (é), picnic area, rest rooms (é), cabin rental,lodging, groceries, restaurant/snacks, bicycle trail, boat rental, boatramp, visitor centers (é), museum/exhibit, self-guided tour/trail.Entrance fee required. Activities:Camping, hiking, bicycling, boating, fishing, bird-watching, wildlifeviewing, ranger-led walks, boat tours, tram tours, educational programs. Special Features:This largest remaining subtropical wilderness in the coterminous UnitedStates has extensive freshwater and saltwater areas, open Evergladesprairies, and mangrove forests. Park wildlife includes rare and endangered species, such as the American crocodile, Florida panther, and West Indian manatee. Each year, between November and May, between 50,000 and 100,000 wading birds congregate in the expansive freshwater and estuarine wetlands of the park, attracted by the excellent feeding conditions created by the drying marshes.
