Eskhel’, Arkadii Aleksandrovich
Born Jan. 28 (Feb. 10), 1914, in the village of Ianzakasy, in what is now Tsivil’sk Raion, Chuvash ASSR. Soviet Chuvash writer. Member of the CPSU since 1942.
Eskhel’ was first published in 1929. He deals with the heroic labor of his contemporaries in collections of short stories, novellas, and literary sketches, such as Native House (1959), Father and Son (1959), Sunny Rain (1965), and The Night Storm (1970). The author of lyric poetry, narrative poems, and plays, Eskhel’ is also a satirist, a humorist, a literary critic, and a translator. His works have been translated into other languages of the USSR. Eskhel’ has been awarded three orders and various medals.
