[¦dü‚pleks äp·ə′rā·shən] (communications) The operation of associated transmitting and receiving apparatus concurrently, as in ordinary telephones, without manual switching between talking and listening periods. Also known as duplexing; duplex transmission. (engineering) In radar, a condition of operation when two identical and interchangeable equipments are provided, one in an active state and the other immediately available for operation.
