Evgenii Vladimirovich Milanovskii

Milanovskii, Evgenii Vladimirovich

 

Born June 5 (17), 1892, in Moscow; died there Oct. 14, 1940. Soviet geologist and student of A. P. Pavlov.

In 1916, Milanovskii graduated from Moscow University. In 1930 he became a professor at the Moscow Institute of Geological Research. His principal works were concerned with the stratigraphy, tectonics, and hydrogeology of the middle and lower Volga region; theoretical questions of tectonics; the geological basis for the plans of various major hydroengineering structures (the Volga-Don Canal, the Kuibyshev Hydroengineering Complex); and the popularization of geological science.
