dominant wavelength
dominant wavelength n (General Physics) physics the wavelength of monochromatic light that would give the same visual sensation if combined in a suitable proportion with an achromatic light. See also complementary wavelength dominant wavelength
dominant wavelength[′däm·ə·nənt ′wāv‚leŋkth] (optics) The single wavelength of light that, when combined in suitable proportions with a reference standard light, matches the color of a given sample. dominant wavelength
wavelength, dominant (of a colour stimulus, not purple) Wavelength of the monochromatic light stimulus that, when combined in suitable proportions with the specified achromatic light stimulus, yields a match with the colour stimulus considered. Note: When the dominant wavelength cannot be given (this applies to purples), its place is taken by the complementary wavelength (CIE). See complementary colour. |
