Deer Stones

(in Russian, olennye kamni), the name given to stones having ancient carved pictures—usually of deer, elk, other animals, or weapons—found in the steppe and forest-steppe regions of southern Siberia. The stones date from the first millennium B.C. Like other petroglyphs, the representations on the deer stones appear to have been of magical significance.
