Aristophanes of Byzantium

(ăr'ĭstŏf`ənēz, bĭzăn`shēəm, –tēəm), c.257–180 B.C., Greek scholar. He was librarian at Alexandria, edited various texts, and reputedly invented the Greek diacritical marks. Aristarchus of Samothrace was his pupil.
