释义 | Burke, John J.Burke, John J. (Joseph)(1875–1936) religious leader; born in New York City. A Paulist priest who was editor of the Catholic World (1904–22), he helped during World War I to organize the bishops' group known as the National Catholic War Council. As general secretary (from 1919) of its successor, the National Catholic Welfare Council (later, Conference), he was a respected voice for Catholic interests and social reform. In 1936 he became a monsignor. |
