Dilizhan Preserve

 

in the Armenian SSR on the upper reaches of the Agstev River; covers 28,800 ha. The Dilizhan Preserve was established in 1958 to preserve the typical mountain wildlife of northern Armenia to a height of more than 2,500 m (the peak of Mount Murguz reaches 2,993 m). The Akhnabad yew grove and the picturesque high mountain lake Parzlich are in the preserve. Mammals in the park include bears, lynx, otters, European wildcats, stone martens, roe deer, wolves, gray hares, Persian squirrels, and forest dormice; among the birds are Caspian snow partridge.
