An international organization established to promote international development and regional integration in Latin America. It works toward these goals by lending to governments and government-owned corporations in the area. Members eligible to borrow comprise all nations in Central and South America, while those who do not borrow include many European and OECD states. It was established in 1959 and is based in Washington, D.C.
