DXD
(Digital eXtreme Definition) An interim format for editing SACD audio content. SACD is converted to DXD, edited by the audio engineer and then converted back to SACD.It is extremely difficult, if not downright impossible, to design editing software that can modify the continuous 1-bit sampling contained in the SACD "DSD64" bitstream (for details, see DSD). The DSD64 track is therefore first converted to PCM, which is the industry standard for audio sampling. DXD is 24-bit PCM at 352.8 kHz, which is more than adequate to encompass the high-resolution DSD64 content. After the DXD file is edited, it is converted back to DSD64 (SACD). See SACD and PCM.
