dynamic cardiomyoplasty

Heart surgery A technique for treating moderately severe–NYHA class III heart failure in which a skeletal muscle, often the latissimus dorsi, is transplanted from its usual insertions in the proximal humerus to the chest wall and wrapped around the heart, and from the fascia to the pericardium; the muscle is stimulated to convert fibers from slow to fast twitch, while synchronously pacing the muscle wrap to ventricular systole Indications For Pts who aren't heart transplant candidates and don't respond to medical therapy. See Heart failure. Cf Batista operation.
