Fonseca, Aguinaldo Brito

 

Born Sept. 20, 1922, in Mindelo, Sāo Vicente Island. Cape Verdean poet.

Fonseca, who writes in Portuguese, moved to Lisbon in 1945. He is a frequent contributor to progressive periodicals in Portugal and the Cape Verde Islands. His first poems were published in the mid-1940’s. His collection Horizon Line appeared in 1951, and in 1958 a selection of his verses was published in the cultural supplement of Noticias de Cabo Verde (Cape Verde Bulletin). Fonseca’s poetry is imbued with civic ardor and resolutely exposes social injustices.
