Bashmakov, Dementii Minich

 

Years of birth and death unknown. Russian statesman of the second half of the 17th century.

Bashmakov was a clerk and became a duma clerk in 1665 and a keeper of the state seal in 1688. Between 1655 and 1700 he served in 16 prikazy (offices), including the War Office, the Posol’skii Prikaz (Foreign Office), the Managing Office of the Tsar’s Household, and the Office of Investigation. During the reign of Aleksei Mikhailovich, he headed the Bureau of Secret Affairs from 1658 to 1664 and again in 1676 and took part in the judicial investigation of the participants in the Moscow Rebellion of 1662; in 1672 he traveled with the embassy to Poland. Bashmakov is last mentioned in sources in 1700.
