Flame-Front Ignition

(1) The process of ignition of the air-fuel mixture in a flame-front precombustion engine. The lean air-fuel mixture in the main combustion chamber is ignited by a flame of burning gases issuing from a small precombustion chamber filled with a rich air-fuel mixture, which is ignited by a spark plug. The flame of burning gases in the main chamber also promotes intense turbulence of the lean mixture, which increases the rate and extent of combustion.

(2) The process of fuel combustion in the combustion chambers of air-jet furnaces.
