Gmail labels
Labels are virtual folders that point to messages in Gmail. Labels such as Inbox, Sent Mail and Drafts are always present, but users can create their own Labels that point to the original messages.Group Contact Labels
In 2018, Group Contacts were also changed to Labels. Any individual contact can be associated with one or more of the user-generated group Labels. See Gmail.
