Geokchai
a city (since 1916) and the administrative center of Geokchai Raion, Azerbaijan SSR. Situated on the right bank of the Geokchai River, on the Baku-Tbilisi highway, 18 km northeast of the Udzhary railroad station. Population, 26,000 (1970). Geokchai has a cognac distillery, a butter and cheese plant, and a cannery; there are also auto-repair, asphalt-concrete, and building-materials plants and a garment factory. There is a technicum for mechanized agriculture and a medical school.
Geokchai
a river in Azerbaijan SSR. It is 113 km long and has a drainage basin whose area is 1,770 sq km. It originates on the southern slope of the Greater Caucasus range. At the city of Geokchai, it divides into many channels, which are used for irrigation. The point where the main channel enters the Karasu River is considered to be the mouth of the Geokchai. The average yearly flow at the city of Geokchai is 12.9 cu m per sec.
