Gazalkent

 

a city; center of Bostanlyk Raion, Tashkent Oblast, Uzbek SSR. Located in the spurs of the Tien-Shan, on the left bank of the Chirchik River, 3 km southeast of the Barrazh railroad station on the Tashkent-Khodzhikent branch. Population, 13,000 (1969).

Gazalkent came into existence in 1932 as a settlement for the builders of the main installation of the Chirchik grid of hydroelectric power plants; it has been a city since 1964. Gazalkent has fruit and vegetable canning, dairy, and wine-making plants and a granite and marble combine. There are rest homes and sanatoriums in the vicinity.
