Glacial Morphosculpture

a type of morphosculpture created by the activity of ice sheets, mountain (valley) glaciers, and glacial meltwater. On plains a distinction is drawn between morphosculpture complexes in areas of glacier ablation and areas of glacier accumulation. The former are characterized by exaration forms (roches moutonnées and dressed rocks, for example), and the latter by glacial accumulation forms (including primary morainic plains, terminal morainic ridges, kames, and eskers) and glaciofluvial formations (frontal aprons and glaciofluvial terraces, for example). In the mountains exaration forms include trough valleys, cirques, and riegels, while accumulation forms include terminal morainic ridges and lateral moraines.
