Freindlikh, Alisa Brunovna

Born Dec. 8, 1934, in Leningrad. Soviet Russian actress. People’s Artist of the USSR (1981). Daughter of B. A. Freindlikh.

Freindlikh graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Theatre in 1957. She acted at the Komissarzhevskaia Leningrad Theater from 1957 to 1961, when she joined the Lensovet Theater. Freindlikh’s work is distinguished by a subtle elegance and the vivid communication of emotion. The actress is known for her sharp delineation of character, her musical delivery, and her gentle, warm lyricism. Her roles have included Tania in Arbuzov’s Tania, Juliet and Katherina in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and The Taming of the Shrew, Polly Peachum in Brecht’s Threepenny Opera, Eliza Doolittle in Shaw’s Pygmalion, and Nina Shchegoleva and Kovaleva in Dvoretskii’s DetachedObserver and Kovaleva From the Provinces. Freindlikh received the K. S. Stanislavsky State Prize of the RSFSR in 1976.
