Gheorghe, Petre

 

Born Mar. 19, 1907, in the city of Tolbuhin, Bulgaria; died Feb. 8, 1943, in Ploieşti, Rumania. Active in the Rumanian workers’ movement.

Gheorghe joined the Communist Youth League of Rumania in 1928, and in 1932 he became a member and in 1935 secretary of its central committee. He joined the Communist Party of Rumania (CPR) in 1930. Gheorghe was repeatedly arrested. From 1936 to 1938 he was a member of the district committee of the CPR in Pazardžik. In 1940 he became a member of the Dobrogea committee of the CPR and in 1941 secretary of the CPR committee in Ilfou District near Bucharest. On May 14, 1942, Gheorghe was arrested on a charge of antistate activity, and after being tortured, he was shot.
