Antimine Defense

Antimine Defense

a system of naval measures taken to prevent vessels from running into mines.

Antimine defense includes observing mine laying by enemy ships and aircraft and warning friendly forces, sweeping and destroying mines, neutralizing mines by using individual ship paravanes and demagnetization units, leading ships behind minesweepers and mine cutters, directly covering assault groups with minesweepers, and evading detected mines. Observation is carried on by shore posts and ships using special technical equipment in order to detect floating, moored, and bottom mines.
