Gergetskii Glacier

 

a valley glacier of the Caucasus, in the Georgian SSR on the northern slope of Mt. Kazbek. Area, 9.5 sq km; width, 0.95-1.25 km; ice thickness, 40-50 m (lower part). The end of the glacier has two tongues with a steepness of 55°-70°. The lower boundary of the glacier is at an altitude of 3,000-3,050 m. The glacier is receding at an average of 11 m per year. It feeds the Chkheri River. It is a tourist attraction.
