Iakhsu

Iakhsu

 

(in the upper course, Muchnakion), a river in the Tadzhik SSR; a left tributary of the Kyzylsu River of the Piandzh River basin. The Iakhsu is 160 km long and drains an area of 2,710 sq km. It rises in the Khazratishokh Range. The river is fed by various sources, but primarily by snow. High water occurs between March and May, with the maximum water level in May. The mean flow rate 16 km from the mouth is 29.2 cu m per sec. Ice forms on the river from December through February. The Iakhsu is used for irrigation.
