释义 | Gambia/ˈɡambɪə /1 (also the Gambia) A country on the coast of West Africa; population 1,778,100 (est. 2009); languages, English (official), Malinke and other indigenous languages, Creole; capital, Banjul. Gambia consists of a narrow strip of territory on either side of the Gambia River that forms an enclave in Senegal. It was created a British colony in 1843 and became a republic in 1970. It was an independent member of the Commonwealth from1965 to 2013. 2A river of West Africa, which rises near Labé in Guinea and flows 800 km (500 miles) through Senegal and Gambia to meet the Atlantic at Banjul.
