The Vienna Secession founded by Gustav Klimt in 1897 helped to launch the Jugendstil.Especially in the Austrian empire, the Sezession movement was started as an obvious rebellion against the rigid art world.... He settled in Munich in 1891, and was a founder member of the Sezession, exhibiting pictures in which Symbolist and Impressionist influences are clearly visible. Discontent with the conservative attitudes of the Viennese Artists' Association led him and a group of friends to resign in 1897 and set up their own organization, the Sezession, of which he was elected first president.
