the Painted Desert

- a beautiful region in the northern part of the US state of Arizona, near the Petrified Forest. It is a tourist attraction east of the Little Colorado River and is about 150 miles/240 kilometres long. It is a high, flat area covered with red, purple, grey and brown rocks whose colours change slightly through the day.
