- a large US encyclopedia, regularly revised. The first edition, in 13 volumes (1827-33), was created by Francis Lieber (1798-1972), a German teacher of politics who settled in the US in 1827. The most recent print edition was published in 2006. The online version is regularly updated, and is sold to schools, universities and libraries.
