(also Charterhouse School)
- a British public school which was built in 1611 at a place in London where a Carthusian monastery (= Christian religious community) used to be. The pupils are still called Carthusians. In 1872 it moved to new buildings in Surrey. It was a school for boys only until 1972, when girls were allowed into the sixth form.
