Stellwag Med.|ˈstɛlvæg| [The name of Carl Stellwag von Carion (1823–1904), Austrian ophthalmologist.] Stellwag's sign: orig., retraction of the upper eyelid in thyrotoxicosis (called also Dalrymple's sign); now often applied to the diminished blinking that normally accompanies it.

Jrnl. 26 Mar. 680/1 A married woman, aged 32, with marked retraction of the left upper eyelid (Stellwag's sign), no proptosis, and no goître. 1907Practitioner Nov. 733 [In exophthalmic goitre] the margins of the eyelids are unduly separated (Dalrymple's sign); the upper lid tardily follows the eyeball in its downward movements (von Graef[e]'s sign); there is diminished frequency of winking (Stellwag's sign). 1950R.
