raschel|ˈræʃəl| Also Raschel. [ad. G. Raschelmaschine, f. the name of the French actress Rachel (1820–58): cf. rachel.] a. A kind of knitting-machine (see quots. 1940, 1968). b. The coarse warp knitting produced by such a machine. Also attrib. Hence ˈraschel v. trans., to knit with a raschel machine (in quot. pa. pple.).
