dulce de leche, n. Brit. |ˈdʌlˌseɪ də ˈlɛtʃeɪ|, U.S. |ˈdəlˌseɪ də ˈlɛˌtʃeɪ| [‹ American Spanish dulce de leche (1884; originally and chiefly in Argentina) > n.) + de of (> prep.) + leche milk (> comb. form).] Originally in South American (esp. Argentine) cuisine: sweet, caramelized milk, often served as a spread or sauce.
