[gannok spurious word due to misreading of the proper name Talbot in Henry of Huntingdon. The best text of Langtoft's AF. chronicle has the name as Galbot; later texts corrupted it into gannoc, gannok; R. Brunne took it for an appellative, prob. supposing it to mean ‘standard’, as it is explained by Hearne and Mätzner.
