gramicidin Chem.|græmɪˈsaɪdɪn| [f. Gram3 + -i + -cide + -in1.] Any of several polypeptides produced by Bacillus brevis which have antibiotic properties, esp. against Gram-positive bacteria, and are used externally to treat local infections; orig. considered a single compound.
