Hindki|ˈhɪndkiː| Also Hindeki, Hindkee. The name of a people, and of their language, of north-west India and Afghanistan.

Kingdom of Caubul ii. xii. 309 It has been observed that there is scarcely any part of Afghaunistaun in which the whole population is Afghaun, and that the mixture is composed of Taujiks in the West, and of Hindkees in the East. 1875Encycl. Brit. I. 235/2 Hindkis. This is the name given to people of Hindu descent scattered over Afghanistan. They are said to be of the Kshatri or military caste. 1886Yule & Burnell Anglo-Indian Gloss. 315/2 Hindki or Hindeki. This modification of the name is applied to people of Indian descent, but converted to Islam, on the Peshawar frontier, and scattered over other parts of Afghānistān.
