Holophane|ˈhɒləʊfeɪn| Also holophane. [f. holo- + Gr. ϕαίνειν to shine, appear.] A proprietary name used attrib. or as adj. to designate a type of lamp-shade that encloses the bulb but is made of glass specially fluted to refract and reflect the light in the required manner with little loss; also applied to the glass itself.
