vedalia Ent.|vɪˈdeɪlɪə| Also Vedalia. [mod.L. (E. Mulsant 1850, in Ann. de la Soc. d'Agric. de Lyon II. 901), of unkn. etym.] The ladybird Rodolia cardinalis (formerly included in the genus Vedalia), which is native to Australia but has been imported into California and elsewhere to control scale insects.
