vibraphone Mus.|ˈvaɪbrəfəʊn| [f. vibration, vibrato, etc. + -phone 1.] A percussion instrument consisting of a series of metal bars, arranged as in a xylophone, and characterized by the vibrato that can be given to the notes, an effect produced either by electrically rotated vanes in the tube resonators under the bars or electronically.
