[late L. (Cassiodorus, Justinian), a proclamation, manifesto, a. Gr. πρόγραµµα a public written notice, f. προγράϕειν to write publicly, f. πρό (see pro-2) + γράϕειν to write.]
1. A written notice, proclamation, or edict, posted up in a public place; a public notice. (In Gr. and Rom. Antiq., and formerly in universities.)
